Learning & Engagement

We take your Learning and Development seriously at the Cumberland and have a dedicated team focused on providing a first-class service to our colleagues and the notion that we need to ensure that we have the firm foundations in place to help us grow and transform. We need to be ready to drive the Cumberland forward with colleagues who are skilled and motivated.

As part of your onboarding here, you will be invited to a Welcome Day at Cumberland House and then an interactive and thought-provoking Insights Discovery session where you’ll learn the things that make you, and your colleagues tick. There’s no ‘one-size-fits-all’ and we celebrate everyone being and bringing their whole self to work.

Once onboard, you’ll find that a huge part of belonging is ‘Opportunity’, described as: ‘Creating opportunities so that employees have an equal chance of progression.'

Our commitment to learning includes a variety of offerings, both formal and informal, including monthly virtual ‘Power Hours’ which will equip you with additional skills and knowledge, Lives in the Hive, informal training sessions which are colleague-led talent sharing sessions and the ability to pursue independent learning and develop at your own pace via our Learning Hub.

Development takes can take the form of on-the-job training, face to face sessions, webinars and conference calls, self-development, and external provision. You’ll have access to training on soft skills as well as task-based learning.

You’ll be set annual objectives with your Line Manager, and review these together throughout the year. Personal objectives can be included here, so you can focus on the areas important to you. This could mean the opportunity to take a relevant professional qualification.

We also support professional membership of groups and may be able to fund your membership fees.

At The Cumberland we believe that the work environment should be a place where people can bring their best selves, feeling engaged with their journey, together with that of the wider company.
