Celebrating 50 years of Cumberland branches

Everyone loves to celebrate a birthday and we’re no different at the Cumberland where 12 branches have marked significant milestones this week.

Leading the way is our most southerly presence in Preston, which is 50 years old.

Colleagues celebrated with customers, sharing birthday cake and handing out balloons. There were similar celebrations at the branches at Denton Holme and Kingstown in Carlisle, Egremont, Haltwhistle, Kendal, Lockerbie, Whitehaven, Wigton, Windemere, Barrow and Lancaster while our head office, Cumberland House, marked its 10th anniversary.

We were pleased to see long-standing customers who made a special effort to drop by and wish us a happy birthday. Pauline Wilcock who was the first customer to be served by the team in Windermere when it opened 45 years ago in 1978 paid the branch a visit. And in Kendal local solicitor Stephen Pooley told staff about his visit on the branch's opening day when joined in the birthday celebrations.

It’s very different now to when our Preston branch opened its doors in 1973 but one thing hasn’t changed: the Cumberland’s commitment to our customers. In many of the communities we serve, we are the last institution standing to offer full banking services.

So happy birthday Preston (50 years); Windermere (45 years); Denton Holme, Egremont, Haltwhistle, Kendal, Lockerbie, Whitehaven and Wigton (40 years); Barrow (35 years); Kingstown (25 years); and Lancaster (10 years) and Cumberland House (10).
