Upgrade for the Cumberland in Egremont

The Cumberland Building Society has announced a significant investment to upgrade its Egremont branch.

The premises in Main Street will close for four weeks in the new year for a full makeover to refresh and modernise its look.

The upgrade follows the recent refurbishment of the Cumberland’s branches in Maryport and English Street, Carlisle, and underlines the Society’s commitment to its branch network as bank closures continue apace.

Daniel Palmer, the Cumberland’s cluster manager for Workington, Whitehaven, Cleator Moor and Egremont, said: “We’re confident that our customers will love the new-look branch.

“Improving our branches is a key part of our ‘kinder banking’ purpose.

“We offer several channels for customers to manage their finances including online and telephone banking, but we know that many customers value the option to deal with a real person.

“That’s why it’s important for us to provide our customers in Egremont an engaging, easily accessible space with a modern look and feel.”

“This refresh will support customers and businesses that wish to interact in-person with a member of our team.

The branch will close at 4pm on Friday January 3 and reopen at 9.30am on Monday February 3. During that time, the nearest convenient branches will be in Cleator Moor High Street and Lowther Street, Whitehaven.

The ATM cash dispenser will also be out of action during the refurbishment work but there are free-to-use alternatives three doors down outside the Star Takeaway and over the road outside the Co-op.

The Egremont branch opening hours will remain unchanged and will continue to serve the public as usual following the refresh.

Unusually for a building society, the Cumberland offers personal and business current accounts and lends to the hospitality sector.

Based in Carlisle, it is Cumbria’s largest financial institution with assets of £3.2billion, mortgage lending of £2.6billion and 31 branches across Cumbria, Northumberland, Lancashire and southwest Scotland.

In 16 of the communities it serves, from Lockerbie to Ambleside, it is the only institution still offering high street banking services. Click here to find your nearest branch.
